What is Utah Speaks! ?

Utah Speaks! is a new informal (ie not official, not 501-c-3) coalition of groups providing services and support to deaf people in Utah that choose to use spoken language as their mode of communication. Many of these organizations are not solely "oral deaf" organizations, but work also with the "Deaf Community" and ASL, Total Communication, etc. Likewise, some of these organizations work with early intervention, others in education, others in educating the educators, and still others with the whole community.

What is Utah Speaks! Not ?

Utah Speaks! is _not_ a commentary in any way about other communication methodologies used by deaf and hard-of-hearing people. It is simply a recognition that a need exists to collaborate with other organizations with (at least in part) similar purposes, so as to generate synergy, leverage each other's experience, expertise, and resources, and to not duplicate efforts.
